Drill pipe slips have a taper of 4"/foot on diameter and other suitable dimensions to permit operation in standard master bushings. The right size drill pipe slips must always be used for the size drill pipe being handled. Slips that are smaller than the drill pipe will damage the pipe and the corners of slips as well as risk dropping a string of drill pipe entirely. It is paramount that the right size is chosen and used to avoid catastrophic damage to the drill string. Slips that are too large will not contact the pipe all the way around. This risks dropping the pipe and destroys the center part of the gripping surface.
Drill pipe slips Type SD can accommodate drill pipes from 2-3/8 to 7 inch. They are classified as type Short(SDS), Medium(SDML), Extra Long(SDML).SDS slips are designed for shallow hole drilling, SDML slips are the perfect choice for all medium depth drilling and SDXL slips are designed for deep drilling. The slips are designed and manufactured in API Spec 7K and SY/T 5049 Slips for well drilling. It is suitable to handle the drill rods during the oil well drilling operations for the exploration of petroleum and natural gases ,It is an essential tool for coupling and uncoupling .
